Email from Tracy Montgomery, Emergency Manager, City of Surprise, AZ:
I’m sure many of your members are well aware of the upcoming Palo Verde Siren Test, and the fact that the county utilizes Ham operators to assist in providing information from remote siren areas to the test operators. The following is a summary of the test, as well as the channel [frequency] the test will be conducted on should any of your groups want to listen in.
As members of the community in the surrounding area of Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, please be aware that a sounding of the warning alert siren system will be occurring soon. All 70 sirens within the 10-mile area surrounding the plant are tested annually to ensure proper operation.
The siren system will be tested on Wednesday, November 13, 2019. The Palo Verde Emergency Preparedness Department along with state and county emergency management officials will activate the sirens twice. The first test will be at approximately 12:00 p.m. and the second test will be at approximately 12:30 p.m. Please mark your calendar.
